In preparation for becoming a student in either Stream 1 or Stream 2 of the Child Life & Pediatric Psychosocial Care program, it’s important to be aware of the minimum requirements you will need to have in place to access all course material and participate fully in the online environment.
Below are the online learning systems we utilize at McMaster University.
1. Avenue to Learn (A2L)
Prior to the start of each semester, you will be given access to your course shells (where all of your course material is housed) for each course you are enrolled in. You can access Avenue to Learn at http://avenue.mcmaster.ca
You must have a MAC ID and be enrolled in the course in order to access it.
In order to use Avenue to Learn to its full potential, we recommend visiting the following links:
By visiting http://avenue.mcmaster.ca/ you will get up to date information on any changes or updates to the system as well as the ability to check your browser requirements. You should have the most up to date version of Firefox, Chrome or Safari (our recommended browsers). Please do not use Internet Explorer as it does not work well with Avenue.
2. Zoom Video Conferencing
Our program utilizes Zoom for all synchronous learning opportunities (leaners and/or instructors are online at the same time interacting with one another in a live environment). We also use Zoom for one to one meetings between students and professors or for students to meet with one another. This video conferencing system creates a virtual classroom/meeting space. You will need:
- microphone (built in to your computer or a headset)
- smartphone, laptop or desktop computer
